Men Gossip as Much as Women
A study on mobile telecommunications show that men gossip as much as women when we’re on the phone. Nice try. Gossip is for women. Men never gossip. Men share information. Just like real men don’t write down their feelings in a diary. That’s for women too. Men document events in a journal.
blown glass, who i stole this from, don’t agree with me though. He thinks that “blokes have always gossiped.”
Interestingly, the researchers don’t include the vast amount of gossip we do on sports celebrities, player injuries, club politics, etc. Or car club gossip, boat club gossip, and so on and so on. For some reason this material wasn’t considered ‘gossip’ per se. That’s ‘manly’ stuff.
But the fact is it is gossip, and if included in the analysis would have sent the figures for ‘male’ gossip through the bloody roof! Sport and leisure were shown to occupy about 10 per cent of bloke’s conversation time, and that’s on top of the other stuff.
We’re self-indulgent bastards too. Men spent more time talking about themselves. “Men spend two thirds talking about their own relationships, while women only talk about themselves one third of the time”.

hey mate, I was taking the piss a bit. But I do think blokes gossip to a degree: what’s the difference between ’sharing information’ and ‘gossip’? Is i’framing’ what we talk about as ‘information’ simply another example of how we arbitrarily gender stuff?
And what’s so bad about ‘gossiping’ anyways? Men aren’t really from mars and women really aren’t from venus ;) Dman, my mates are always whinging and moaning about workmates, sports celebs etc. That’s hardly ‘information’ I ‘need’. hahaha
