Manly Wisdom From an Aging Rockstar
A Rockstar that survived fame, drugs and groupies, and still rocks, is worth listening to. Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is one of them. In this interview with Men’s Health he shares some of his wisdom as a man, father and rockstar. I like this one: “Don’t be afraid to be loud. Loud is good.”
When Stephen Perrine of Men’s Health asked Perry about being faithful to one woman, Perry surprised me with his answer. I really never expected an energetic rockstar to be turned off by groupies.
I’m turned off by the groupie thing. I’m a romantic; I like finding the right woman, and if it works, it works. There’s a drug called naloxone they give to opium addicts. It fits into certain receptors [in the brain] so the opium can’t get in. I believe that when you’re in love, it works the same way. I mean, I appreciate a beautiful woman. But I’m satisfied. There’s no room for anybody else to get in.
What a man!
He’s got a lot more to say in the original story “Live Like a Rock Star… without dying like one.” Here’s his wisdom in short:
Perry’s Pearls
1 Don’t be afraid to be loud. Loud is good.
2 Moderation in all things–even the things that are good for you.
3 Your definition of adulthood doesn’t have to be what your father’s was.
4 Talk to your kids about sex and drugs from the moment they can talk.
5 When you’re in love, monogamy is easy–there’s no room for anyone else.
