When did it become fashionable to lie?
[...] And I’ve been reading Men’s Journal again. When did it become fashionable to lie? In one column they discuss how to get out of tight spots like when you are an hour late for a date and so on. In two of the situations, the person dispensing advice recommends lying. Like saying “I was thinking about what you said the other day and you are absolutely right.” It doesn’t matter that he wasn’t and that there is no substance to what he is saying. He is just sending the message that he is thinking of her and reassuring her–all to get out of a tight spot. I have to admit that telling the truth has not always been the best thing for me and I am a little fascinated about the idea of lying so glibly. Can it be good to lie? Do other guys lie frequently when it is expedient?
